The Evolution Of Breasts

| January 7, 2013

Over the last few decades, the size of the average woman’s breasts has increased. Although breast sizes vary from country to country, in the United States the average is a 36C. Not so long ago the average breast size was much smaller. So what’s with the increase in size?

To really get an understanding of just how much the average breast size in the U.S. has increased we need to look at the average breast sizes of the past.

Why Larger?

Breast growth is a natural occurrence among women throughout various stages of their lives. Although the increase in the average breast size can be attributed to numerous factors, these are some of the more common reasons.

Breast Augmentation

The most popular form of plastic surgery performed in the U.S. with an estimated 307,000 procedures performed in 2011.

The desire for women to make their bust lines larger and more attractive are obvious reasons why the average size of breasts has increased.

Staying fit has surely been a trendy subject. What some women don’t know is that certain forms of exercise actually contribute to achieving bigger breasts.

Although exercising doesn’t add breast tissue to a woman’s breasts it can build up the muscle underneath the chest which makes the breasts look bigger.

Weight Gain

On the opposite end of the spectrum, obesity is also a popular subject in the U.S. these days with 35 percent of adults deemed as obese in 2011.

Since the breasts are naturally made of glandular and fatty tissue, when a woman gains weight excess fat can accumulate around the breasts which increases the overall size.
