Breast Lift Surgery

Beverly Hills, CA

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, aging, and genetics all affect the appearance of the breasts. Time and size fluctuations can stretch the breast skin, causing varying degrees of ptosis (sagging). Some women also experience displacement of the nipple-areolar complex below the inframammary fold.

Breast lift surgery corrects breast ptosis by removing excess skin and reshaping the remaining tissue. Dr. Linder performs countless breast lift surgeries annually, helping patients achieve their cosmetic goals by restoring a shapelier and more youthful breast aesthetic.

During your private consultation, Dr. Linder will evaluate your needs and desires to help determine the best technique to achieve your specific aesthetic goals. Women choose breast lift surgery to:

  • Lift sagging breasts
  • Reposition/resize the nipple-areola complex (NAC)
  • Restore youthful perkiness
  • Reduce instances of skin rashes around and beneath the breasts

Ideal Candidates

Ideal candidates for breast lift surgery wish to address sagging, drooping breasts. Candidates should be in good health, not smoke, and have realistic expectations of their results.

While some women undergo breast lift surgery as a standalone procedure, many choose to combine this technique with additional breast surgery, such as breast augmentation, breast reduction, or breast revision, breast implant removal.

How Old Do You Have to Be for Breast Lift Surgery?

The misconception is that only older women can benefit from a breast lift. Any adult woman unhappy with their sagging breasts may qualify for a breast lift, and this is because aging is not the only cause of breast sagging. Younger women may experience drooping breasts due to genetics, weight loss, or breastfeeding.

Additionally, younger women opting for a breast reduction benefit from combining their reduction with a lift.

Schedule a consultation with Dr. Linder to see if you are a candidate for this surgery.

Benefits of Breast Lift Surgery

Rejuvenates Post-Pregnancy Breasts

A woman’s body undergoes tremendous changes during and after pregnancy. Breast lift surgery revitalizes breasts that have become droopy as a result of pregnancy or breastfeeding. Those who opt for breast lift surgery enjoy a firmer and more attractive bustline. Breast lift surgery can be combined with breast implants for women who desire an increase in fullness and more perky breasts.

Revitalizes Aging Breasts

As we age, our skin naturally begins to lose elasticity. Skin laxity often causes the breasts to sag, compromising the overall appearance of the chest. Women who desire a more youthful bustline can benefit from breast lift surgery, a procedure that physically tightens, lifts, and secures the breast tissue in a more elevated position.

Restores Breasts After Weight Loss

Significant weight loss is a major accomplishment. However, a common side effect of losing a massive amount of weight is skin and tissue laxity. Following weight loss, the breasts are likely to experience ptosis. Fortunately, this can be improved with breast lift surgery.

What Is the Crescent Lift?

The crescent lift incision is created along the upper edge of the areola, through which a small, crescent-shaped piece of tissue is removed from the breast. This technique is ideal for women with minor ptosis.

What Is the Benelli Lift?

The Benelli lift, or donut lift, involves incisions around the perimeter of the areola. Two concentric incisions encircle the areola, and a donut-shaped piece of tissue is removed from the breast. The Benelli lift also allows the areolas to be reduced. This technique is ideal for patients with moderate ptosis.

What Is the Lollipop Lift?

The lollipop lift is performed for patients with moderate to severe ptosis. The first incision encircles the areola, and the second incision extends vertically down the breast. The nipple-areolar complex can be repositioned and resized through these incisions, and breast tissue can be tightened.

What Is the Anchor (Wise-Pattern) Lift?

The anchor (or Wise-pattern) lift benefits patients with severe ptosis. One incision is created around the areola, another follows vertically down the breast, and the final incision is placed along the inframammary fold. Excess breast skin is then removed, and the remaining tissues are tightened.

How Much Does Breast Lift Cost in Beverly Hills?

Breast lift fees vary from patient to patient. Total cost will include surgeon fees, facility fees, and anesthesia fees. Additional price factors include pre- and postoperative appointments and tests, postoperative dressings, medications, and whether any other surgical techniques are being combined.

If necessary, Dr. Linder may perform your surgery at the premier medical center Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles. He has been an Attending Surgeon in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery since 1997.

What Type of Anesthesia Is Used?

How Long Does Breast Lift Surgery Take?

The length of the procedure will depend on the technique used and whether another breast surgery is being performed in combination with a lift. Most breast lift procedures take between one and three hours to complete.

What Surgeries Are Performed in Combination?

Breast lift surgery may be performed with other cosmetic procedures to achieve the desired results. Patients can combine breast lift surgery with any of the following:

  • Breast augmentation: Increases the volume of the breasts using saline implants, silicone implants, or fat transfer
  • Breast reduction: Reduces the size of overly large or heavy breasts by excising tissue and fat
  • Breast revision: Removes and replaces breasts implants or adjusts a previous breast surgery

You are required by federal law to remain in the recovery room for at least one hour of observation following your lift.

After Your Lift

What Is the Normal Recovery Time for a Breast Lift?

Most patients find that their breast lift recovery takes around four to six weeks. During this time, patients should avoid heavy lifting and placing unnecessary stress on the healing incisions.

What Types of Medications Will I Be Given After My Surgery?

Prescribed medications will depend on the patient. One of two antibiotics, Ciprofloxacin or Keflex (not ideal for patients allergic to penicillin), will be provided. For pain management, Dr. Linder may recommend Norco or Vicodin. Zofran may be prescribed to prevent nausea and vomiting.

Will There Be Scarring After Lift Surgery?

Breast lift scarring will develop at all incision sites. Fortunately, Dr. Linder makes these incisions as small as possible and limits them to places where they can be easily hidden by undergarments, such as bras and bathing suits.

The resulting scars will fade over time.

What Can I Do to Help Minimize Scarring After Surgery?

The darker skin of the areola will hide some breast scars; however, patients with more significant breast ptosis will also experience a vertical scar down the lower pole of the breast and a horizontal scar across the breast crease.

Patients can help minimize the visibility of their scars by:

  • Avoiding sun exposure on the incisions for up to one year
  • Keeping the incisions clean for at least two to three weeks post-op will help to prevent infection
  • Keeping incisions dry for at least 14 days — avoid getting the incisions wet or sweating, as this can lead to bacterial infections

When Can I Return to Normal Activities After Breast Lift Surgery?

Most breast lift patients return to work and their daily activities within one to two weeks; however, patients must continue to avoid strenuous activity and heavy lifting for six weeks or longer. Dr. Linder will give you specific guidelines to follow after the procedure to ensure the safest and most effective recovery.

How Long Will the Results of Breast Lift Surgery Last?

The effects of breast lift surgery are considered permanent. However, the natural aging process and subsequent weight fluctuations or pregnancies may alter the results.
